Organizational History |
Stan Watkins and Warren C. Shepard formed Stan Watkins Trucking, Inc., in 1974 by
pooling their equipment, related assets and liabilities, and by purchasing Eugene
Tripp Trucking capital stock through the newly formed corporation. The companies
began with sixteen truck tractors and eighteen van trailers with operating rights
to transport malt beverages from Seattle and Tacoma, Washington to Idaho and Montana.
In 1974, Tiger Transportation was purchased from a group of individuals primarily
to buy the operating license to enter the flatbed hauling market. In January 1976,
Watkins and Shepard Partnership, was formed by Stan Watkins and Warren C. Shepard
to acquire the present terminal/corporate headquarters in Missoula and Helena, Montana.
The primary reason for the set up of these various corporations and partnerships
during this time period was due to I.C.C. regulations of keeping each venture as
a separate activity. In 1984, Watkins and Shepard Leasing was established as a partnership
to purchase the rolling stock. In June of 1987, the trucking operations were transferred
to form Watkins and Shepard Trucking, Inc., a subsidiary of Stan Watkins Trucking,
Inc. Watkins and Shepard Partnership, and Watkins and Shepard Leasing were converted
into limited liability companies in December of 1993.
Today, Watkins and Shepard Trucking operates over 630 trucks and 1,600 trailers.
The Company has 19 terminal locations in 15 different states and employs over 900
people throughout the United States.
The Company is owned by Steve Williamson of Shelby, Montana who serves as the Company's
President and Ray Kuntz of Helena, Montana who is the Company's Chief Executive
Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ray is also the current Chairman
of the American Trucking Association.
